Receptionists are very often seen as protecting the GP’s from patients.  The aim of this session is to ensure that patients are given appointments in a timely and effective manner.

 Learning outcomes:

·        How to speak to patients to let them know you want to help them – this is half the battle!

·        How to interpret what patients are telling you to enable a safe and timely appointment to be offered.

·        What needs to be asked to be safe?

·        Red flags – looking at conditions which require either urgent advice from a clinician or when is it time for you to dial 999.

This will be a very interactive session involving lots of discussion, looking at scenarios and sharing of experiences.  There is no role play but attendees will be expected to join in.
