To be proficient in taking blood safely and effectively, using safe and best practice guidelines

• Correct procedure for confirming identity of patient/client and understanding the importance of accuracy
• Understanding the importance and 100% accuracy when taking a transfusion sample
• To demonstrate a good understanding of the correct vein selection
• Demonstrate correct application of tourniquet
• Awareness of infection control policy and guidelines
• Demonstrate hand hygiene use of gloves (ppe)
• Knowledge of handling sharps safely + what to do in the event of a needle stick injury
• Knowledge of correct sequence of collection tubes
