Who Should Attend?
This course is aimed at Practice Nurses and HCAs/HCSWs who are administering influenza, pneumococcal pneumonia and herpes zoster vaccinations. HCAs/HCSWs who attend this update must have completed a recognised 2 day immunisation training course previously.
Aims and objectives
This is an update on `flu, pneumococcal and shingles with a particular focus on seasonal ‘flu.
We will also consider injection techniques, legal issues, adverse events, practice and resource issues.
By the end of this session you should be able to:
- Differentiate between seasonal and pandemic flus.
- Recognise the risk implications and burden of disease for flu
- List flu prevention and management approaches.
- Apply the CMO 2018 influenza vaccination policy in local practice.
- Recognise legal requirements for delivering a safe vaccination service.
- Identify the practical procedures and best practice in vaccine administration.
- Identify quality sources of further information.
- Develop an action plan of what you need to do in practice.
- Know how to respond in the event of an anaphylactic reaction or adverse event.
