Prison GP at HMP Bristol with option of practice work in addition
2 to 8 sessions per week
If you are a General Practitioner looking to expand your portfolio beyond general practice, or you have a keen interest in substance misuse and/or mental health, have you considered prison medicine?
Working within the prison environment offers new and unique challenges and experiences to GPs looking for portfolio work. Within this dynamic setting, patients often arrive with complex and varied healthcare needs, including drug/alcohol dependency, personality disorder, mental health issues and poor management of chronic disease. These are often some of the most marginalised and vulnerable people within our society and working within prison healthcare offers the opportunity to help these individuals to improve and take control of their health and well-being. This can often form the foundations upon which better lives can be built.
Hanham Health has been delivering GP services to prisons within Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire for some years and it has developed a strong, dedicated and enthusiastic team of prison GPs. The majority of our prison GPs also continue to work regularly within our practices as we feel this offers the ideal balance and variety needed to maintain skills and to be part of our wider support and governance network.
We currently have regular prison sessions available at HM Prison Bristol for GPs looking to take on a new challenge. This may be alongside existing work, or we can offer permanent employment and a split between prison and practice work, depending on individual preference.
If you would like to know more about this exciting opportunity, would like to visit the prison or would like to discuss applying, please contact Viki Lamb, Strategic Manager for Secure Environments on 07413 387074 or email@example.com
