Avon LMCs Newsletter on 08-11-23

Welcome to our weekly newsletter, sharing the latest news and topics of interest for practices.

FOI request

3 practices in Bristol have been contacted with a Freedom of Information Act request about their policies for transgender patients. The LMC are helping these practices with their responses. If you have also been contacted with a Freedom of Information request on this topic, please contact rebecca@almc.co.uk.

Cancelled endoscopies

The LMC have been made aware of instances where patients have been removed from waiting lists for endoscopies as they were unable to attend the first appointment that they were offered – with the GP to refer back to the service at a later date! If your practice and patients have experienced this process, please submit a datix report – without the evidence, it is very difficult to challenge these unacceptable behaviours. The LMC will raise this issue with the ICB at our next meeting on Tuesday 21st November.

Bristol Association of Sessional Doctors

On Tuesday, the LMC had a meeting with Bristol Association of Sessional Doctors. We discussed the unique role that locums play in our practices and how BASD helps to support several of the needs (including training and support) for locums. Many of the locums registered with BASD have worked in the BNSSG system for many years and we are all keen to continue to support this group of GPs who help to keep our practices running during times of absence and unforeseen circumstances. If you have locums working in your practice who are new to the area, you may wish to direct them to BASD so that they can access the support on offer.

Organisation clarification

During recent LMC meetings with local organisations, we have been asked to clarify the relationship between Avon LMC and LMC UK Services. Avon LMC want to be very clear that there is no relationship between the two organisations. The similarity in name is co-incidental. One individual, Mandy, works for both organisations but she is employed under separate contracts by each organisation and any email from Mandy is not an endorsement of the other organisation.
