Parents to receive day one right to neonatal care leave and pay
From 6 April, a new legal right to Neonatal Care Leave will come into force, It’s a day-one right for employees if their baby is admitted into neonatal care within the first 28 days of life and remains in hospital for seven days or longer.
Under this legislation, eligible parents can take up to 12 weeks of leave (and, if eligible, pay) in addition to existing entitlements. For example, a mother whose baby needs 15 weeks of neonatal care could take 52 weeks of maternity leave, followed by 12 additional weeks of neonatal leave.
But that’s just the legal aspect
