Job summary

Are you looking for an exciting new role as a Nurse Associate in a GP practice? We have a great opportunity to join Fireclay Health.

Our established Nursing team of 18 currently comprises of Treatment Room and Practice Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Long-term Conditions Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and HCAs, each having their own specialist role within the practice.

The nursing team is supported well by the GP partners and Management team, as well as the rest of "Team Fireclay" which includes a large multi-disciplined team of GPs, Physios, Clinical Pharmacists, Care Co-ordinators and our amazing admin and receptionists.

With a focus on working together, Fireclay Health staff strive to deliver excellent patient care whilst enjoying coming together to share and develop best practice. Protected time is given for training, team meetings and clinical supervision, where we recognise there are important learning opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be part of the nursing team, responsible for treatment room care.

We can offer some flexibility with shift patterns between Monday to Friday, working 24-30 hours week, with an additional 1 in 4 Saturday mornings per month.

We are also open to supporting training for those looking for a career path within Primary Care. Support and training will be offered.

The nursing team, provide a wide range of services, including wound management, child and adult immunisations, cervical cytology, sexual health and contraception, chronic disease management and travel health.

About us

As a registered teaching practice, we are used to supporting nursing students and GP trainees and integrate them into the team. We offer an extensive induction, after which you will work autonomously, always with the support of the team around you. Training and opportunities to learn new skills are available and development is actively discussed with the team.

Responsible For

Job responsibilities

  • To assist and perform routine nursing tasks related to patient care, such as routine BP checks, ECG, suture and clip removal, BMI and lifestyle advice.
  • To develop and implement agreed wound care plans, following local and national evidence-based guidelines, inclusive of the treatment of minor traumatic wounds within own level of competency.
  • Following recognised Leg Ulcer management training and the completion of competencies, to undertake leg ulcer care and compression bandaging, following agreed care plans in line with local/practice policy.
  • Following training and competency assessment, to undertake adult NHS immunisation programmes and ensure vaccines/injections are administrated under patient group directives or patient specific direction.
  • Following training and competency assessment, to undertake cervical screening tests
  • To undertake administration of prescribed medicines via oral, IM, SC routes, following competency-based training and practice policy.
  • To undertake the collection of pathological & microbiology specimens including venepuncture, swabs, urine culture in line with local guidelines
  • To support chronic disease management undertaking preliminary investigations for Type 2 diabetes patients, such as foot checks and with the view of undertaking further training in the future to deliver full reviews if appropriate courses become available.
  • To undertake any investigatory test, such as automated Dopplers and Spirometry, taking basic history and referring patients to relevant clinician for interpretation/ planning of care.
  • To be able to provide appropriate self-care advice for patients presenting with minor illness within own level of competency and referring to GP/ANP where appropriate.
  • Chaperone and assist patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician.
  • To assist GPs with minor surgery and well women procedures.
  • To maintain effective infection control measures in line with local guidelines and practice policy.
  • To be able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis, according to the current UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.
  • Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and medication.
  • Maintain adequate stock within the treatment room and assist with the re-stocking of other clinical rooms as required.
  • To participate in developments within the practice and support QOF requirements.
  • Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes and on computers, as per NMC code.
  • Attend and actively participate in practice meetings as required.
  • Awareness of statutory protection procedures including referral and recognition of signs and symptoms of child abuse.
  • Awareness of referral mechanisms for mental health issues, family violence, vulnerable adults and addictive behaviours.
  • Actively take part in mandatory and internalexternal training as requested.
  • To be registered with the NMC. Work in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and Scope of Practice for Nursing Associates
  • Adhere to and follow all policies and protocols as listed in the Staff Handbook and contract
