Project Management – Risks, Issues and Assurance (Virtual)
Maximum Capacity: 20
Summary:
This module develops delegates’ ability to identify and manage the uncertainty that accompanies project delivery within General Practice.
Delegates explore the important distinction between risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies and learn how each should be recorded, monitored, managed and escalated.
The session moves beyond simply maintaining a risk register to consider effective risk ownership, mitigation, contingency planning, project assurance and escalation. Particular attention is given to recognising when emerging project concerns require intervention or escalation to sponsors, Partners or wider governance structures.
Course content:
- Distinguish between risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies and understand their implications for successful project delivery
- Develop clear risk statements, assess likelihood and impact, identify controls and determine appropriate risk ownership
- Apply mitigation, contingency and issue-management approaches and maintain an effective RAID log throughout the project lifecycle
- Establish appropriate escalation thresholds and consider when project concerns should be managed locally or escalated to sponsors, Partners, PCNs or organisational governance structures
- Use project health checks, decision logs, status reporting and assurance questions to determine whether a project remains deliverable, controlled and aligned with its intended objectives
On completion of this course delegates will be able to (expected outcome):
- Identify and differentiate project risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies and assess their potential effect on delivery
- Apply proportionate controls, mitigation, contingency and escalation arrangements to manage project uncertainty effectively
- RAID, assurance and project health information to provide appropriate oversight and support informed project decision-making
