PCN Management – Project & Programme Delivery in PCNs (Virtual)

Summary:

This module provides PCN Managers with a practical framework for translating PCN priorities into structured and manageable projects and programmes. 

Rather than providing generic project management theory, the course focuses specifically on the challenges of delivering projects across multiple practices, teams and partner organisations. Delegates explore how to establish clear scope, outcomes, responsibilities, governance and milestones and how to manage dependencies where delivery is shared across different organisations. 

The session introduces practical approaches to project initiation, planning, risk and issue management, governance, reporting and benefits realisation. Particular attention is given to establishing clear ownership and escalation arrangements within complex PCN projects. 

Delegates are encouraged to apply the tools directly to a current or planned PCN initiative. 

Course content:

• Explore the relationship between strategic priorities, programmes, projects, workstreams and individual actions and establish when a structured project approach is required
• Define the problem, desired outcomes, deliverables, boundaries, resources, assumptions and dependencies required to establish a clear PCN project
• Develop milestones, workstreams, responsibilities and dependencies and consider how accountability can be maintained where delivery involves multiple practices or partner organisations
• Produce practical approaches to identifying and managing risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies, decisions and determining when escalation is required
• Consider proportionate project governance, decision rights, Clinical Director and board oversight, practice representation and effective progress reporting
• Move beyond measuring whether activity has been completed to evaluation whether the project has delivered the intended organisational, financial, workforce or patient benefit

On completion of this course delegates will be able to (expected outcome):

• Structure PCN priorities as clearly defined projects with appropriate scope, outcomes, ownership and governance
• Use practical project management tools to manage milestones, responsibilities, dependencies, risks and issues across organisational boundaries
• Monitor project delivery and evaluate whether intended benefits have been achieved and sustained
