Life in the Area

Welcome to the area, as Avon LMC we represent Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire each of which, has a lot to offer to prospective residents. Below we have a brief description of each of the areas and links to further information if you wish to find out more.

Where we are. Where you want to be.

Almost one million people live and work across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, attracted by the diversity of the vibrant city, market towns, seaside resorts, villages and countryside.

All of this is the backdrop to a great quality of life, high employment and good standards of living.

Whether the city or country type, you’ll find something to suit your tastes. From city restaurants and nightlife, theatre and a wealth of culture, to the great outdoors and every type of activity imaginable, it’s all here.

Plus, we’re very well connected: easy road and rail links and an international airport are your gateway to the rest of the UK and beyond. Wales, the West Country, Bath and the Forest of Dean are all on your doorstep, while London is just an hour and a half by train.

The region is also home to a thriving third sector, several universities and a range of large, specialist hospitals.

A diverse population

Our large region is typical of most of the UK in that it has a diversity of demographics, and features the complete scale of deprived areas alongside affluent areas and everything in-between.

That also makes for a diversity of GP practices, each offering a range of challenges and opportunities.

And whatever kind of practice you prefer to work in, whether you’re more at home in a large multi-site practice or a smaller local practice, you’ll find it here.

We hope the information and resources you find here about living and working in BristolNorth Somerset and South Gloucestershire, different practices and the great people who work in them will spark your interest in a rewarding career in general practice in BNSSG.
