Avon LMCs Newsletter on 11-10-23

Welcome to our weekly newsletter, sharing the latest news and topics of interest for practices.

The contractual deadline to provide patients with online access to their notes draws ever nearer.

For those practices who have not already switched on this functionality, GPC England last week published updated guidance:

I would like to introduce myself as the new General Manager of Avon LMC.

Over the last 10 years I have worked across Primary and Secondary Care and more recently have completed vocational training in Law, following the completion of a Law degree. I am looking forward to representing and supporting General Practice in my new role and developing strong collaborative relationships that will benefit the future of General Practice.

General Manager, Avon LMC

Many practices in BNSSG have not been inspected by CQC in several years. Following feedback from practices who have undergone recent inspections, there are significant differences compared to inspections that were performed pre-pandemic. A few specific areas to highlight are:

1. There is a suite of CQC searches that are imported into your EMIS that form part of the CQCs assessment of your safety assessment. These will have been imported as part of your Ardens subscription. We would like to inform you all about an important update regarding Learning Disability Nursing Apprenticeships.

2. With increasing allied healthcare professionals and ARRS roles, there is a need for documented oversight of non-medical prescribers to ensure safe practice
3.  A robust process for acting on MHRA alerts
4.  A system to support oversight of safe controlled drug prescribing

Finally, I thought I would share with you the attached letter which reflects some of the work that the LMC does trying to influence national policy on behalf of the GPs in BNSSG.

Thank you letter – Avon LMC
