Learning Outcomes

A good induction can increase staff retention, reduce the time needed for a new staff member to settle into the workplace and generally make a happier work force.

  •  Why is a good induction important?
  • Is your induction process well-structured and allowing flexibility for the new recruit?
  • What do new recruits need to know in their first week/first day?
  • How can you make new recruits feel comfortable and confident in the work place?
  • How best can you integrate the new recruit with other team members? How do you prepare others?
  • How good is your welcome and introduction (which needs to reflect the culture, goals, shared values and expectations of your practice)?
  • What training will you offer? Who will do this? What about learning styles? How do you ensure the training is effective?
  • Planning
  • Feedback – learning from new recruits and acting on recommendations and improvements.
