This training is suitable for HCA’s in Primary Care

    This practical and theory core skills training has been specifically designed for HCA’s in Primary Care who are developing their role in the care and management of patients.

    Aims and Objectives

    By the end of this session Candidates will have gained the necessary knowledge and skills and having completed practical assessment and competencies at their work place - working from their Practice Protocols, will be able to carry out their role safely and effectively.

    Learning Outcomes

    Undertaking of physiological measurements:

    • Temperature
    • Pulse
    • Respiration
    • Blood Pressure
    • Waist Circumference
    • BMI
    • Weight
    • Pulse oximetry
    • Blood glucose - theory
    • Urine Testing - [collection/handling/storage/transport] theory

    Agenda

    An understanding of:

    • Relevant Legislation/National Guidelines/Policies.
    • The physiological states that can be measured.
    • The preparation and undertaking of physiological measurements.
    • The recording and reporting of results.
    • The major factors that influence changes in physiological measurements.
    • A few common conditions which require recording of physiological measurements.
    • Specimen Procedures - collection/labelling/packing/storage/transport.

    NB Candidates need to bring relevant equipment to this session – thermometer/Peak Flow meter & disposable mouth pieces/sphygmomanometer -aneroid & digital/stethoscope/measuring tape.

    Alcohol wipes.

    This interactive session will include group discussion.
