Along with a sound introduction to recognising how and why cardiovascular disease occurs, there will be sessions on lifestyle interventions and drug therapies and the role of the general practice nurse in both assessing and monitoring people with CVD.
Content
The problem with CVD (prevalence, pathophysiology) - Assessing and managing CVD risk - Diagnosis and management of CVD - stable angina and acute coronary syndrome; TIA and stroke; Peripheral arterial disease - Hypertension diagnosis and management - Dyslipidaemia - updated guidance and evidence based use of therapies - Heart failure - in a nutshell - Lifestyle interventions in CVD - what really works

Learning Outcomes
· Recognise the risk factors for developing CVD and how to carry out a competent risk assessment
· Provide immediate and ongoing care for people with acute coronary syndrome
· Advise on lifestyle interventions to reduce CVD risk and implement behavioural change techniques to optimise these interventions
· Evaluate the role of various types of medication in managing CVD risk
· Understand the responsibilities of GPNs in long term monitoring of people with CVD
