Mainly for nurses who are doing COPD and asthma reviews, HCAs can attend, but will be more on diagnosis, management and referral pathways 

Aim of the course

  • Review the latest updates in diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of asthma and COPD.
  • Understand evolving best practice in inhaler technique, prescribing, and patient education.
  • Explore integrated approaches to managing exacerbations and reducing hospital admissions.
  • Strengthen confidence in supporting patients with long-term respiratory conditions.

Expected Outcome

  • Understand what asthma is and how it affects the airways
  • Recognise common symptoms and triggers
  • Know how asthma is diagnosed in practice
  • Understand the basics of asthma treatment and inhalers
  • Support patients with inhaler use and self-management
  • Identify when asthma is poorly controlled or worsening
