Course Content:
This virtual introductory course provides a practical grounding in asthma for clinicians and health professionals, covering the essentials of diagnosis, treatment, and holistic assessment. Participants will explore how asthma is identified through key symptoms, differential diagnoses, and common diagnostic tests; how first?line and stepwise treatments are selected and optimised, including inhaler types, medication classes, and technique; and how to conduct a comprehensive, person?centred assessment that considers environmental triggers, lifestyle factors, and self?management needs. By the end of the session, participants will be able to explain the core principles of asthma diagnosis, describe the rationale and use of common asthma treatments, and carry out a holistic virtual asthma assessment to support personalised care planning.
Expected Outcome:
- Explain the core principles of asthma diagnosis, including recognising key symptoms, understanding differential diagnoses, and interpreting common diagnostic tests such as spirometry and peak flow.
