Summary:

This module moves the programme from self-leadership to the practical challenge of leading individuals and teams. 

Delegates explore what defines a team, what motivates people and the conditions required for sustained high performance. They consider common team dysfunctions and how leaders can establish greater clarity, accountability, trust and constructive challenge. 

The extended module provides substantial practical development around difficult conversations, feedback and conflict resolution. Delegates practise approaches using realistic healthcare leadership scenarios, enabling them to build confidence in addressing performance, behavioural and relationship issues rather than allowing problems to escalate. 

Course content:

• Define effective teams and explore relevant motivation theories and their practical implications for leadership
• Determine the characteristics and behaviours associated with high performance, including purpose, trust, clarity, accountability and collective responsibility
• Recognise common team dysfunctions and develop leadership interventions for rebuilding trust, improving accountability and strengthening team relationships
• Develop structured approaches for preparing for and conducting difficult conversations and delivering clear, specific and constructive feedback
• Understand different sources and responses to conflict and apply practical conflict-resolution techniques to workplace situations

On completion of this course delegates will be able to (expected outcome):

• Apply leadership and motivation principles to create the conditions required for effective and high-performing teams
• Recognise and respond appropriately to team dysfunction, performance concerns and emerging conflict
