Summary:
Successful project delivery does not automatically result in successful organisational change. This practical module explores how project managers and practice leaders can move from implementing a technical solution to achieving sustainable changes in behaviours, processes and service delivery.
Delegates examine current and future-state processes, readiness for change, stakeholder impact and resistance before considering how new ways of working can be tested, implemented and embedded.
Using realistic General Practice service transformation scenarios, the session integrates project management with practical change-management and improvement techniques.
Course content:
- Explore the relationship between project management, change management and service transformation and why technically successful projects can fail to achieve sustainable change
- Use process mapping and structured analysis to understand existing services, identify problems and design improved future-state processes
- Consider how proposed changes affect different individuals, teams and processes and assess organisational readiness for implementation
- Explore the causes of resistance, leadership responses, communication and engagement, and use structured change principles to support adoption of new ways of working
- Apply PDSA and implementation approaches to test change, measure impact, respond to emerging problems and ensure improvements become embedded within normal practice
On completion of this course delegates will be able to (expected outcome):
- Analyse existing services and processes and identify opportunities for structured service improvement and transformation
- Assess organisational readiness, stakeholder impact and resistance and develop appropriate strategies to support successful implementation
- Plan, test and embed service changes in a way that supports sustainable improvement rather than short-term project implementation
