Project Management – Planning and Delivery (Virtual)

Summary:

This practical module develops delegates’ ability to turn a defined project into a realistic and manageable delivery plan. 

Delegates explore how project objectives and deliverables are broken down into activities, milestones, dependencies and responsibilities, while taking account of the capacity and operational pressures that affect project delivery within General Practice. 

The session introduces practical planning and monitoring techniques that enable project managers to maintain oversight, identify slippage and make informed decisions when circumstances change. Delegates will leave with tools that can be applied to projects ranging from small practice improvements to more complex PCN initiatives. 

Course content:

• Translate project objectives and deliverables into manageable workstreams, activities and tasks using practical work breakdown techniques
• Identify key milestones, dependencies and critical activities and determine the most effective sequence for project delivery
• Consider the people, time, finance and organisational capacity required to deliver projects alongside the operational demands of General Practice
• Use action trackers, milestone plans, RAG reporting and project status reports to maintain oversight of progress and identify emerging slippage
• Explore how project managers should respond when deadlines, resources or priorities change and how projects can be appropriately re-planned without losing sight of intended outcomes

On completion of this course delegates will be able to (expected outcome):

• Apply practical project monitoring techniques to assess progress, identify slippage and maintain oversight of delivery
• Adapt project plans appropriately when capacity, timescales, dependencies or organisational priorities change
