Job summary

Montpelier Health Centre is seeking an enthusiastic, well-organised, and patient-focused Pharmacy Technician to join our expanding multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

As a key member of the medicines optimisation team, you will:

  • Support medicines reconciliation and synchronisation, particularly for patients transferring between care settings
  • Liaise with community pharmacies, hospitals, and specialist services to ensure safe and effective continuity of care
  • Work in partnership with patients to support appropriate medicine usage and adherence
  • Ensure Shared Care Protocols (SCPs) are followed, referring back to specialists where appropriate
  • Support the prescription ordering and processing system, ensuring safety and efficiency in handling repeat prescriptions
  • Manage clinical document workflow, including reviewing and processing discharge summaries, clinic letters, and hospital communications
  • Assist with training reception/admin staff on medicines ordering, streaming, and prescription requests
  • Build relationships across primary, secondary, and community care settings to strengthen integration of pharmacy services

Job responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a friendly and supportive environment, alongside a highly experienced Medicines Management Team comprising:
  • 3 Pharmacists
  • 3 Prescription and Discharge Summary Clerks
  • 1 Pharmacy Technician
You will work closely within the medicines management team, but also alongside GPs, nurses, reception teams, and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) to deliver high-quality medicines optimisation and patient care in primary care.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrates understanding of clinical governance, patient confidentiality, and professional accountability
  • Working under appropriate clinical supervision to ensure safe, effective, and efficient use of medicines
  • Proficient in medicines reconciliation, communication with healthcare providers, and document handling
  • Good interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Competent in use of IT systems and digital communication tools

Desirable

  • Previous experience in primary care, community pharmacy, or hospital pharmacy
  • Familiarity with EMIS
  • Awareness of local and national medicines management initiatives
  • Involvement in service development or quality improvement initiatives
