Research Nurse / Study Coordinator (Permanent and Maternity Cover roles) – West Walk Surgery
Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse to join our friendly, well organised, and supportive research team at our GP surgery for around 24hrs a week, to include a Wednesday, Friday, and either Monday or Thursday. This post is available from December, but we are happy to wait for the right candidate. We are also looking for an additional maternity cover fixed term role to start from January.
- We have recently been selected by the NIHR and Department of Health and Social Care to be a Primary Care Commercial Research Delivery Centre (PC-CRDC), which is due to go-live from 1st November
- Heavily involved in commercial research for over 10 years, our busy clinical trials unit runs studies covering the whole scope of General Practice. Please see our website www. southglosresearch.org.uk for more details about our site and the studies we run
- Previous research experience would be beneficial, but not essential, and full training and support will be provided by our experienced team. This could be an exciting change to your normal practice nurse role. Patients are generally very motivated to take part in these studies
- Opportunities to expand your skills depending on the research project – for example, if you do not currently perform spirometry, we will train you
- Our current research team includes a Principal Investigator, 3 research nurses, lab technician and research administrator, and we are part of a much wider practice team at the surgery
- Due to our successful appointment as a PC-CRDC, we are also recruiting an additional research doctor, an Outreach Study Coordinator, second lab technician and administrator. You would be joining an expanding, supportive and enthusiastic team with lots of experience
- Your roles would include:
o Working closely with the whole research team
o Undertaking study related activities, for example, venepuncture, ECGs, completing case report forms after study visits and liaising with study sponsor staff
o Working closely with patients as they progress through a trial
o Being involved in the application process for new trials and with the set-up procedures in preparation for a trial to begin
o Ensuring full compliance with study protocols
o Undertaking training as required for each study and keeping up to date with Good Clinical Practice - You would need to have the following skills and experience:
o Excellent communication and team-working skills
o Ability to work independently, with meticulous attention to detail
o Competence in range of essential nursing skills such as venepuncture, ECG performing etc
o Be computer literate and keen to learn new systems that each different trial brings
o Have a degree of flexibility in your working days at times. For example, if a planned study visit falls on a certain day when there is no other research nurse cover, working days may need to be switched that week, including occasional Saturday morning cover. However, the vast majority of hours will be fixed.
o Highly effective time management and organisational skills with the ability to keep track of multiple studies and their requirements - Our GP practice has 14,800 patients and our wider team includes 11 doctors, a Clinical Pharmacy team, Mental Health Nurse, Physios and Paramedics. We are proud to be a sought-after training practice with regular F2s and GP registrars, and an award-winning Core Undergraduate Teaching practice. We have a daily catch-up meeting with the whole clinical team
- Located in Yate town centre, an expanding town 10 miles north of Bristol, convenient for all amenities, we are a based in a large purpose-built premises with X-ray department on site, and have a small branch surgery in nearby Coalpit Heath
- Competitive salary - details available on request
