Meet The Committee

I am absolutely delighted to serve as your new Chair for Avon LMC as it feels like I’ve landed my dream job. Ever since my practice became financially unviable and handed back its contract, I’ve been passionate about sustaining general practice and protecting the wellbeing of its staff.

By way of background, I have worked all roles within general practice ranging from locum to Partner, and I am now a salaried Lead GP in Charlotte Keel Medical Practice in Bristol. I have a portfolio career which include GP Training Programme Director, Appraiser and Mentoring roles. I have recently stepped down as Chair of England LMC Conference following the end of my three-year term but continue to be a member of the GP Committee of the BMA.

Prior to taking on a partnership in Bristol in 2013, I worked as a sessional doctor in North and West Bristol.

I joined Avon LMC in September 2013 and continue to relish the challenge of supporting practices and trying to influence wider health care landscape on their behalf.

Away from work, I love exercise, rugby and reading.

I have been a member of Avon LMC main committee since 2011, and a board member since May 2021, representation North Somerset. I have been a GP partner since 2008, initially at Riverbank Medical Centre in Weston Super Mare, and then with Mendip Vale Medical Group having merged with them in 2018. I currently do my clinical duties at Sunnyside Surgery in Clevedon. I have also worked in clinical leadership roles in CCG over the years, finishing in 2022.

I am passionate about General Practice and want to support GPs and their Practices to develop and be viable for the future. I am one of the GP Partners at Concord Medical Centre and GP Research Lead,  I went onto become the South Gloucestershire LMC Board Director in 2024 after being voted in by the membership. As one of the directors, I want the membership to know about the LMC, how we represent them and how we work collaboratively with stakeholders, as the LMC is the voice of grass roots GPs and their Practices.

Having represented general practice at conference and been quoted in the Pulse I want to continue to give general practice the voice it deserves. This includes funding, workload, workforce and estates. As a board member, having a voice at the table and sharing outcomes is key. I am foremost a GP and I wish general practice to be as best is it can and be viable for many years to come, for its GPs, staff and our patients.

Alex works at Nightingale Valley Practice, part of Connexus PCN and shares the role with Peter Lillie. He works as a salaried GP at NVP and enjoys the broad variety that general practice offers. He has a particular interest in orthopaedics, sports and msk medicine. Outside of work Alex enjoys cycling and SCUBA diving when time permits.

I have been a partner at Fireclay Health (formally St George Health Centre) since 2013 and been involved with the running of FOSS PCN in a leadership capacity since it started.  Currently sharing the role of Clinical Director within the PCN. I enjoy representing our fantastic team and working to improve the services we can offer our patients.

I worked over 20 years in finance and banking management roles culminating in leading the People Strategy / Comms / Systems UK wide teams within the Business Support Unit Chief Business Office team at Lloyds Banking Group. Following time with my family I directed my skills towards general practice management where, for over 10 years, I have transferred these skills and collaborated with my team to create a supportive work environment combined with improving positive patient experiences.

I am a GP partner at Gloucester Rd medical Centre and also joint clinical director of Phoenix PCN. I work 7 sessions a week and my clinical interests are in women’s health and dermatology. Outside of work I love anything active including cycling, running, open water swimming and long hikes with the family and dog!

I am Dr Pavi Vajravelu, practising GP in Bristol for 17 years, representing Bridge View Medical PCN in South Bristol.

I am a Salaried GP and the Research Lead at Grange Road Surgery. I represent Swift PCN on the Avon LMC Committee and have a particular interest in the primary care/secondary care interface. Additionally, I work for the University of Bristol, conducting research on the quality and safety of primary care.

I am a GP partner in Pembroke Road Surgery, part of the Healthwest PCN. I have been working in this part of the city for over 20 years.

I’m a GP at Tyntesfield Medical Group by day, but also work for GP Out of Hours, usually following the weekend demands of being both a football and rugby parent.  Working in a variety of settings helps to keep me in touch with issues affecting jobbing GPs and enables me to fulfil my role on the Agenda Committee for the UK LMC Conference.  Conference is where we debate and vote on motions which become BMA policy, forming their mandate when negotiating our contracts with Government, which goes hand in hand with our work at Avon LMC in trying to make things better for both GPs and our patients.”

I am a GP Partner at Close Farm Surgery and represent 4PCN, which comprises of Close Farm, Hanham Health, Kingswood and Cadbury Heath Surgeries.

I am Tom, I have qualified a year and a half ago as a GP after training within Bristol and work for Leap Valley surgery. I am excited to be the LMC rep for the network 4 PCN. I hope to use this role as an opportunity to advocate for our patients and colleagues within our PCN, to support the vital work we do.

I am the Managing Partner at Kingswood Health Centre and the elected committee member representing Practice Managers in the South Gloucestershire Locality.
