Thoughts from a Practice – Practice Staff Training

To find out more about the benefits of our free training programme, from those that have used it, we spoke to Angela, Managing Partner, at Eastville Medical Practice.

Why initially did you decide to enrol staff on the Avon LMC training programme?

It provides comprehensive training for practice staff, which is regularly reviewed – with training being delivered to meet the needs of practice staff.  Practices (and their staff) are able to provide feedback on training, and participate in the questionnaire that assists the LMC to determine what training is required.  It is always the first port of call when considering staff training needs, and generally those needs are met.

How has the training programme benefited your staff?

It is particularly useful for the mandatory training – helps practice managers to keep track of staff training

It has supported the professional development of staff that I am keen to develop to take on additional responsibility

It provides good training for practice nurses

Is there a particular example of someone that has benefited from the training that you could tell us about?

Yes, a member of our admin team who undertook a level 3 supervisory development course – I can see how her confidence has increased and she is doing a great job of leading her team.

How has the training programme benefited the practice?

I think the PST programme is quite unique in arranging the delivery of training over a the BNSSG area. I see the benefits as being:

• Cost containment and consistency of training across the area – for those practices that use it.
• Time saving in terms of sourcing training,
• Confidence in quality and appropriateness of training – courses and trainers are ‘vetted’ and approved so we know we are getting a good standard, as compared with something we might source ourselves with little knowledge of the product.
• Online mandatory modules so easy to access for new and existing members of staff
