Diabetes

Diabetes UK provides an introductory diabetes education tool for healthcare professionals covering Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

The Cambridge Diabetes Education Programme was designed and tested by a multi-disciplinary, diabetes specialist team, consisting of nurses, dietitians, podiatrists, health care assistants, general practitioners and hospital consultants.

It is based on the UK, nationally recognised, diabetes framework of competencies for healthcare practitioners, to ensure that they have the right diabetes skills and knowledge to support patients living with diabetes.

The various UK diabetes competency frameworks CDEP utilises are:

TREND-UK: An integrated career and competency framework for adult diabetes nursing

Diabetes UK: An integrated career and competency framework for dietitians and frontline staff

Diabetes UK: Podiatry competency framework for integrated diabetes foot care

Diabetes UK: An integrated career and competency framework for pharmacists in diabetes

CDEP’s content is continually reviewed and further developed to ensure the learning opportunities offered are evidence-based, up-to-date and relevant to the target audience. CDEP’s outcomes are routinely audited to ensure that we are meeting healthcare practitioners’ needs.

Learners may also wish to only undertake the sessions relevant to their role.

On completion of the knowledge sessions and assessments, users can print a certificate as evidence of the sessions undertaken. A period of supervised practice to allow acquisition and observation of clinical skills and application of knowledge to practice for practitioners new to immunisation is also recommended as is the completion of an immunisation competency checklist.

Sexual health & contraception

This free course, understanding cardiovascular diseases, explains what happens in cardiovascular disease, when the heart’s performance is affected, how the normal function of blood vessels is impaired, and what treatments are available. Whether you are a patient, relative, friend or healthcare professional, you will find the course interesting.

NCSCT Smoking Cessation

Our Training and Assessment Programme includes all of the core competences (knowledge and skills) needed by stop smoking practitioners in England to help smokers to quit.

The training programme is built around evidence-based behaviour change techniques that provide an understanding of the factors involved in smoking and smoking cessation and include practical interventions that we know will make a significant difference to the chances of your clients becoming permanent ex-smokers.

The training programme has been shown to increase practitioners’ knowledge, develop their skills and lead to improved practice.

Population Health Management

This programme has been developed to support analysts and other health and care professionals working in population health to build their knowledge and skills within this area. Population health management (PHM) is central to the development of and is a new focus of analytical work for analysts working across these partnerships.

Population health management (PHM) is an approach that uses data to help health and care systems to improve population health and wellbeing. The Coronavirus (COVID-19) response to date has highlighted the pivotal role of PHM, with primary and secondary care providers needing to risk stratify and proactively support key population groups with personalised care models. PHM will become increasingly important as systems move to formally establish ICSs and will be pivotal to the way that the new systems will work together to improve the health of their populations.
