As we find ourselves in the heart of another busy summer in general practice, I want to take a moment—on behalf of the Avon LMC team—to remind you of something simple but vital: please take your break.
None of us is immune to exhaustion—and recovery isn’t optional; it’s essential.
The summer months offer a rare opportunity to step back: whether that’s a proper holiday, a long weekend, or just a few quiet days at home. Spending time with family, reconnecting with friends, or simply being outside in the green spaces around us—these aren’t indulgences; they are protective habits that keep us grounded, well, and resilient.
Whatever rest looks like for you—whether it’s the coast, the hills, a garden, or a book—I hope you give yourself permission to embrace it fully. Turn off your email. Leave the inbox unanswered. Let your colleagues cover you (and do the same for them in turn). The system may never be quiet, but you can find quiet within it.
Wishing you a restful, recharging break—however and wherever you spend it.
Following queries across BNSSG practices about contractual obligations, item of service fees and QOF indicators, a new guidance document has been developed to outline immunisation responsibilities and entitlements for 2025/26. The document highlights gaps in local commissioning and common areas of confusion, which have been shared with the BNSSG Integrated Care Board and Public Health Commissioning Officer for the South West.
Created following consultation with NHS England’s South West Collaborative Commissioning Hub and local practices, this guidance aims to support practices to better understand the requirements and signpost to other providers where appropriate.
