1-1 & Appraisal Training (Aimed at New Managers) – Virtual
Maximum Capacity: 15
Effective 1-to-1s and appraisals are an essential part of good people management. When used well, they provide dedicated time for managers and staff to discuss performance, achievements, challenges, wellbeing, development and future priorities.
This practical course is designed for new and developing managers in General Practice who are responsible for holding staff 1-to-1s and annual appraisal meetings.
Delegates will explore the different purposes of regular 1-to-1s and formal appraisals, how to prepare for and structure effective conversations, and how to create an environment where staff feel able to contribute openly. The course will also consider setting meaningful objectives, identifying development needs, providing constructive feedback and ensuring that agreed actions are followed through.
The session will explore the differences managers may need to consider when supporting clinical and non-clinical staff, recognising that the management conversation may need to reflect different roles, responsibilities and development needs while maintaining a consistent and fair approach to people management.
Using a practical appraisal framework, delegates will leave with greater confidence to conduct purposeful conversations that support individual performance, staff development and the wider needs of the practice.
