PCN Management – Data, Digital & Population Health for PCN Managers (Virtual)

Summary:

This module develops the confidence of PCN Managers to use data, digital opportunities and population health information to support better decision-making and service development. 

Delegates explore how to move beyond collecting activity data towards using information to identify variation, understand population need, prioritise resources and evaluate impact. The session considers how PCN Managers can identify the measures that matter and present information in ways that support effective Clinical Director and Board decision-making. 

The course also examines digital transformation within primary care, distinguishing genuine service transformation from simply introducing new technology. Delegates consider adoption, benefits, workforce and patient impact, digital exclusion and implementation risk. 

The session concludes by exploring the appropriate use of emerging AI tools within PCN management, including productivity opportunities, information governance and the importance of professional oversight. 

Course content:

• Explore how to interpret data critically, understand variation, ask appropriate questions and recognise the limitations of individual measures
• Consider how population segmentation, inequalities, demand and local intelligence can support prioritisation and service development within a PCN
• Differentiate operational, performance and strategic measures and consider how dashboards can provide concise information for managers, Clinical Directors and PCN Boards
• Develop practical approaches to presenting data clearly, identifying the key message and moving from information to recommendation and action
• Explore how technology can support service redesign while considering workflow, adoption, patient experience, workforce impact, digital exclusion, information governance and implementation risk
• Consider appropriate uses of AI-enabled tools for productivity, analysis and drafting alongside professional accountability, validation, confidentiality and human overs
