Avon LMC’s Newsletter on 19-03-25

Welcome to our weekly newsletter, sharing the latest news and topics of interest for practices.

I’m writing as I catch the train to London for the Special England LMC conference  – which has been called to discuss and debate which actions GPs must take to protect the survival of the profession. A number of us are attending to represent our colleagues across BNSSG.

This comes off the back of a board strategy day yesterday, for the directors of the LMC. One of the things we discussed were the results from our phase 3 survey for corrective action. Thanks to those who have completed the survey, and thanks for the kind feedback that some gave back – it was really appreciated after what has been a busy time. There are still a few practices that haven’t responded so it would be great if they could get our numbers up to 100% – there was unfortunately a glitch in the responses so some may need to check if they need to re-submit.  We have set a deadline for Friday.

The last few days have seen a new restructuring of the NHS announced, with potential cuts at the ICB. This may impact a number of our colleagues who work across the system, who are probably feeling uncertain at present. We wanted to offer our support to these colleagues as they face this challenge.

The Chair of GPC England received a letter from the Secretary of State for Health to commit to negotiating a substantive new contract within the term of this government.

Following the success of our last face to face Members’ event in September, we are holding a virtual event in a few weeks, to discuss the phase 3 survey results and plan next steps.

We would like to invite at least two people from each practice (preferably Practice Manager and GP) but can accommodate up to four people per practice.

Please register your attendance here.

Keep abreast with all the latest local and national updates by joining our broadcast only WhatsApp group. This means you won’t wake up to a million messages because only the LMC admin team can post important updates to share with the membership.

Just email info@almc.co.uk to sign up.

Question: We have concerns about deceased patients receiving texts, such as batch texts, are we required to leave them as registered until the Medical Examiners process is completed?

Answer: Following discussion with the MEO and other practices a work around has been by the Practice admin team removing the deceased patients contact details from the ‘Registration’ page on EMIS, as soon as they are informed that the patient has died. They can copy and paste the telephone number and email address into consultation note, in case required later on. Once the ME service have issued the MCCD, the patient can then be deducted from Emis by the admin team, as the ME service requests.
