Summary:
This practical course develops the operational management skills required to coordinate the day-to-day running of a busy general practice.
Delegates will explore how demand, workforce capacity, appointments, administrative processes and competing priorities interact, and how managers can use systems, data and structured problem-solving to maintain effective practice operations.
The course moves beyond simply responding to daily pressures and introduces delegates to practical approaches for identifying operational problems, improving workflows, allocating resources and maintaining service continuity when things do not go to plan
Course content:
- Managing demand, capacity and workload across clinical and non-clinical practice teams
- Appointment systems, patient access, workflow management and effective use of practice resources
- Process mapping, identifying inefficiency and improving administrative and operational processes
- Operational performance, using data and KPIs to identify pressures, variation and opportunities for improvement
- Business continuity, operational risk, prioritisation and responding effectively to disruption and competing demands
On completion of this course delegates will be able to (expected outcome):
- Assess operational pressures and make informed decisions about capacity, workload, workflow and resource allocation
- Use practice information and simple improvement techniques to identify inefficiencies and improve operational processes
